U.S. calls for treaty on mercury reduction
NAIROBI, Kenya (AP)- In another reversal of a Bush administration policy, the U.S. is now pushing for a legally binding international treaty to reduce mercury in the environment.
At a meeting of the world's environment ministers in Kenya today, the Obama administration's top representative declared mercury "the most important global chemical issue" and said it "calls for immediate action." Advocacy groups are welcoming the U.S. policy change.
